Collected Memories
Inspired by mudlarkers, Collected Memoires was a temporary public collection of people’s most cherished memories tied to an object.
For two hours, I documented people’s stories tied to an object by capturing a picture of the object brought in and then writing down the memory tied to it. In return, I handed out ephemera, mimicking money, as though I was buying their time and story.
This time and space were to show how memories and feelings tied to an object make its importance and value, rather than the market value of the object itself.
Left Behind
Inspired by lost and left behind receipts found in train stations, left behind in an anthology of poems made to show how poems and art can be discarded and forgotten about, just like receipt paper.
I collected old, forgotten about poems and printed them onto butter paper, mimicking receipts. And left them in the ticket/receipt bin of an Auckland Transport machine in Britomart station.
So, when people reach their hand into the bin to collect their receipt, they might also grab onto the faux receipt and rediscover these lost poems along with other people’s receipts showing their travels.
